Because I Matter

I admit it.

I have lived much of my life meeting everyone else’s expectations. I’ve said yes when I wanted to say no, I’ve pursued goals that weren’t my own, I’ve struggled to see my own worth and therefore sought validation from others, sacrificing pieces of myself in the process. Until I reminded myself that I exist, and therefore I matter.

It has not been easy choosing myself. There have been pangs of guilt of not fulfilling others needs and wants. But every time I have been true to myself, I have felt a little freer, a little more alive, and I’m not just improving my life; I’m showing up as the best version of myself for those I care about.

Much of this new found freedom has been due to learning about the things that hold me back and discovering what my true core values are. It has made it possible to recognise sign posts and make it easier for me to head in the right direction.

It’s been about giving myself the same compassion and respect that I have so often extended to others, and confidently making choices that align with my values. I can set boundaries and say no when necessary, and by doing so prioritise my own well-being.

I matter, not because of my achievements or the roles I play, but because I exist.

I am me.

And you are you.

We matter.

It’s time to stop seeking validation from the outside world and start recognising our worth from within.
