I first attended Green SuperCamp Australia as a Team Leader, at that time, I was in the midst of completing my Bachelor of Education. As an educator, I was thrown into a whirlwind of opportunity – opportunities for growth within young people; I was immediately awestruck by the high level of content, environment, professionalism, and nurturing. I gave myself a beginners mindset in this space, knowing it had more to teach me personally and professionally than I could possibly imagine – and it absolutely did.
Now, as a Facilitator of Green SuperCamp Programs, I am blessed to assist in providing these learning and growth opportunities to the many young minds that enter our space. I am still amazed by the quality of educational, personal, leadership and team-building skills that the Program facilitates, however, there is another magical aspect of this Program that never ceases to amaze me. Throughout this Program, there is a space held for every single young person. This space holds no judgement, carries no expectations, and most importantly, gives way for the young person to show up as the best, most authentic version of themselves. For many of the young people in the room, this unspoken space gives permission for exploration and expression of self they may never have experienced before.
As an educator, we know that young people learn best in a supportive, nurturing environment – the reason this Program reaps its results is not only the scientifically based content. It is because the framework instils a sense of belonging – one where young individuals feel implicitly safe to open their minds, take on new learning, and absorb themselves in the content. This is a gift that every young person deserves to experience – and a learning environment I would love to see replicated within our education system in the near future.
