What is the most important mistake to avoid when leading a team?
Take your approach to successfully manage one person in your team to be the be-all and end-all to managing everyone else.
Everyone is unique and different and prefers a different style.
Exceptional leaders are able to tailor their approach to what each team member needs most.
How to do this?
Have a direct conversation with each team member and discuss things like:
- What support do you need from me to be successful?
- What guidance works best for you?
- How will you know when you are stuck or being unproductive?
- What expectations and agreements can we both set for the best outcomes?
The more you understand each other’s styles, the better you can both set manageable expectations and agreements for success.
Over time, the more we get to know each other, and work better together, we create a safe space in which trust and overall performance accelerate!
